Tokyo Tech offers a Doctoral program and is one few International Graduate Programs available.

Inaugurated by Tokyo Institute of Technology (hereafter referred to as Tokyo Tech) and RIKEN, a leading advanced research institute in Japan (http://www.Riken.go.jp/engn/index.html), on April 1st, 2007. The main purpose of this school is to offer overseas students an opportunity to enroll directly in the Doctoral program at Tokyo Tech. Students will be able to choose among various courses to acquire a broader knowledge
and understanding of their fields and to conduct advanced research.

There are currently four courses in Tokyo Tech-RIKEN International School:

  • Bioscience and Biotechnology
  • Nano-materials and Nano-biomaterials
  • Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Science
  • Physical Science and Engineering

The academic advisors will be both Tokyo Tech and RIKEN professors, specialized in the field of research of the participating students, and the students in this school will study and partake in research activities at both Tokyo Tech and RIKEN.

In addition, this program allows qualified students with little or no knowledge of Japanese language to pursue a full degree-course of advanced study in Tokyo Tech.

Since lectures and seminars will be given in English, it is not essential to master the Japanese language to study at this school. However, since Japanese is the language of daily life, students in the program are encouraged to attend a few Japanese classes per week on a regular basis for their own benefit.
