With a new building at the AmerAsian School in the city of Ginowan, Okinawa in April 2003, the school was established mainly to provide both an English and Japanese education for children of all age groups born to U.S. military personnel and Japanese women. Some 60 students from kindergarten to junior high school levels attend the school, while around 10 other children are planning to enroll, according to the school officials. The cornerstone curriculum is the English one. Classified as a “free school”, the school was begun as a means of providing an education for AmerAsian children who were bullied at school.

  1. The AmerAsian school is in Shimashi, Ginowan, in a rent free building built and paid for by Ginowan City Hall. It has a relatively high staff turnover.
