Prince Hisahito, third in line to the Chrysanthemum Throne, attended the entrance ceremony for the primary school affiliated with Ochanomizu University in Tokyo on Sunday.

The prince, 6, is the first member of the Imperial family not to be enrolled in Gakushuin Primary School in the post-World War II era.

Wearing a navy-blue school uniform, Prince Hisahito, accompanied by his parents, Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko, took commemorative pictures before the ceremony.

When a member of the media told him, “Congratulations on your admission to the school,” the prince said, “Thank you very much,” and bowed slightly.

According to the Ochanomizu University primary school, 105 students were enrolled this year. It plans to treat Prince Hisahito in the same way as other children, but due to security reasons, he will go to school by car
