At least two International schools in Tokyo are closing their campuses for long durations, with the American School in Japan shutting down for the remainder of the school year as the coronavirus pandemic wreaks havoc on curriculums.
“Following the advice of the Japanese Government that all schools should close due to COVID-19, ASIJ’s Chofu and ELC campuses are currently closed through the end of the school year (June 11),” ASIJ said in a statement on its website.
Schooling was continuing via online classes, according to one parent.
Although campus is closed, the Admissions Office remains available for inquiries via email and will continue to process applications and provide admission decisions,” it added. “During this time all visits to campus are canceled.”
The International School of the Sacred Heart, which is closed to students until at least May 5, told The Japan Times that it has not decided when or if it will reopen the school, adding that it will continue schooling via online classes.
